Ingenu Launches the US’s Newest IoT Network
Light Reading – September 9, 2015 – There will soon be another option for low-power, wide-area (LPWA) Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity in the US as On-Ramp Wireless announced Wednesday it is building its own Machine Network under its new name, Ingenu.
The company, led by former Raco Wireless CEO John Horn, is building what it’s billing as the world’s largest IoT network dedicated to connectivity for machines. The San Diego Union-Tribune – September 9, 2015 – San Diego’s On-Ramp Wireless announced today that it’s going to build a nationwide wireless network dedicated to Internet of Things connectivity.
451 Research – September 9, 2015 – At CTIA 2015, On-Ramp Wireless announced that it is renaming the company Ingenu. Under the direction of longtime M2M industry veteran and newly appointed CEO, John Horn, Ingenu intends to build a nationwide network using its own proprietary network technology called Random Phase Multiple Access (RPMA) that operates in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed spectrum.

Today at IoT Evolution Expo he talked about On-Ramp’s value proposition and promised significant news next month at CTIA. Cellular networks that underlie many IoT deployments today, he said, offer far more bandwidth than most of those applications require – so it’s like drinking from a fire hose. And the disparity between what IoT needs and what cellular delivers grows wider and wider as cellular network operators move from 2G and 3G networks to 4G LTE and beyond, he said. That excess, he added, comes at a cost.
